When you’ve run a successful business for more than two decades, you’re bound to amass a lengthy list of firsts. This year brought about an important first in my life, the release of my first book, “Behind the Red Door: Unlock Your Advocacy Influence and Success.”

Now, I can celebrate another milestone, my first bestseller. “Behind the Red Door” was recently ranked as an Amazon Best Seller.

This is a delightful and humbling way to cap off a wonderful year with the team at Moore Communications Group. As I contemplate this good news, I can’t help but remember my first client, my first advocacy campaign and a long list of firsts, each one building upon the next to lead me to where I am today.

Shortly after I opened MCG, then a one-person public relations firm, I was hired to help identify and activate people to sign up for the National Marrow Donor Program. Within one day, we had more people sign up for the registry than in any previous year. That was the first time I realized the power of an advocate’s voice.

Advocacy has been my life’s work, which is reflected in “Behind the Red Door.” My passion is empowering others to bring about positive change in the world. My goal was to write a book that would present tactics and examples that others could emulate for success. I drew upon many examples from my work.

Over the years, I’ve helped MCG’s clients and others harness the power of advocacy. I’ve accomplished firsts on behalf of these clients and in my personal life. I’ve worked on behalf of community causes and organizations in health care, economic development, education and many other areas.

It is fitting that my first campaign was in health care because much of my work since then has been with patient advocates and organizations that are committed to enhancing the entire health care ecosystem. But I am delighted that my first book resonated with readers in numerous industry sectors.

As 2016 draws to a close, I am elated to celebrate my first best seller, a humbling sign that others are seeing value in my work and drawing inspiration from these experiences.

“Behind the Red Door” is a step-by-step roadmap for anyone who wants to bring their cause or organization’s story to life to achieve powerful results. Among its pages, you will find my best advocacy practices. I hope they empower you toward accomplishing your own list of firsts.
